There are only a handful of artisans worldwide with the skill and talent to craft faux rockscapes and many thought Ottawa was too conservative for the innovation. The Artistic Group has proven otherwise and distinguishes themselves with inspiration of innovative products. This craft was introduced to the Artistic Group by one of the owners' brothers who spent years with one of the originators of the craft in the U.S. west coast. This brother has now partnered with the originator and their company leads as rockscape artists in Florida (possibly the world) and they are busy sculpting for celebrities and Caribbean resorts. The Artistic Group has worked with their craftsmen on unique projects, sharing “family” secrets to continuously improve their skills. The method has been altered slightly to reflect the Canadian climate. Our rockscape crew are first and foremost artists with a lifetime of experience in the arts, particularly sculpting.

Each rockscape is tailored to the clients taste, imagination and budget. Whether it's faux or natural or a combination of both. Most popular are the resort, Hollywood , celebrity style crafted rockscapes however gentle waterfalls are another option. Rockscaped elements can feature waterfalls, planters, diving rocks, waterslides, wet decks or simply balanced groupings.

We include rock casting in every rockscape we do. The actual percentage of casting depends to some degree on the budget for the project. For example, if the budget is limited, a small amount of casting is used in the job. When the budget allows greater attention to detail, there can be a higher percentage of castings and hand carved detailing.
When we set out to locate real rock from which to make molds, our first concern is that the rocks will make an interesting and beautiful statement in a landscape design. The fact is that most rocks in nature aren't particularly what we would want in our landscape. It's only those special rock formations that are unusually dramatic that we make molds from.

For natural or combination rockscapes; what we usually do is survey the site and the surrounding area, sometimes even miles away. We find rock formations in the area, then we simply transform the most aesthetic portions of the naturally occurring rock into the design of the site. The criterion we follow on each project is, "Is this rock formation believable?" In fact, rock might be the only aspect of the design which appears as totally natural since the plants and other elements of the landscape usually follow a more contrived theme to achieve the goals of the design.
