Frequently Asked Questions ...

1. Can Bomanite be used outside and inside?

Yes! Bomanite is an extremely strong all-weather product that can be used inside or out to provide a surface with the beauty of stone; tile, or brick and the incredible affordable durability of concrete.

2. Can Micro-Top be placed over existing concrete?

Yes, again! Using a special bonding agent, Micro-Top can be installed interior and exterior to transform existing, damaged concrete or other material into a durable, colorfast, high-strength graphic art form.

3. What about maintenance?

All Bomanite products are durable and incredibly easy to maintain. Exterior surfaces need only to be resealed every two years or so. Interior surfaces should also be resealed every few years, however, for maximum beauty and life of the floor, light mopping and occasional waxing are suggested.

4. How much does Bomanite cost?

Bomanite is priced by the square foot, at far less than the price of actual stone, tile, or brick.

5. How long will Bomanite last?

With proper care, your Bomanite surface can last a lifetime.

6. Will Bomanite concrete crack?

The nature of any type of concrete is that it may crack. To minimize/eliminate any risk of concrete cracking, it must be installed by an experienced, knowledgeable concrete contractor specifically trained in textured concrete.

A competent concrete contractor knows that the sub-grade must be of structurally sound material; that the concrete mix design must be minimum 4500 psi, ?”, 6% air-entrained concrete to withstand a harsh Canadian winter; that the concrete must be reinforced with 3/8” steel rebar; and that 6/6-10/10 welded steel mesh should be added to the concrete for secondary reinforcement against cracking and that proper control joints/expansion joints are cut into the concrete. Should the concrete crack despite these measures, the crack is almost always of the “hair-line” variety. Most of your friends and guests will never know its there unless you point it out to them!

7. Will the colors of Bomanite concrete fade?

The pigment that is worked into the surface of the concrete is a synthetic metal oxide pigment, the same as used in making brick which does not noticeably fade for many, many years. Bomanite recommends resealing every 2 or 3 years. If you wait longer, you may notice the color fade slightly. But just like waxing a car, reseal your Bomanite concrete and the color will be as vibrant as the day it was installed.

8. How many years has Bomanite concrete been installed?

Bomanite, the leader in the architectural concrete paving industry, has a network of specially trained and licensed contactors in 56 countries, worldwide. These highly skilled network of concrete craftsmen receive ongoing manufacturing, educational and technical support from Bomanite Corporation. These resources and support system ensure that you're hiring the most qualified concrete contractor in the architectural paving industry. Check out some more reasons to choose Bomanite.

9. Is Bomanite concrete durable enough to withstand the Canadian winter?

Again, installed by experienced craftsmen, Bomanite concrete is more durable and will last longer than any other type of masonry installation! Whereas traditional pavers and cobblestone settle unevenly during the freeze/thaw cycle of winter, textured and imprinted concrete is reinforced with 10m steel reinforcing rods, plus 6/6-10/10 welded steel mesh, right in the middle of the concrete. This steel reinforcement gives the concrete the necessary tensile strength to resist the constant heaving produced by the freezing and thawing of the ground. Bomanite concrete is also better than pavers and cobblestone in the Spring and Summer. Pavers and cobblestones are susceptible to joint deterioration if sand is not constantly brushed into all the joints. This joint deterioration results in ant hills, growth of unsightly grass and weeds and produces dangerous tripping hazards when the individual pavers settle unevenly. Bomanite is one monolithic placement of concrete eliminating full depth joints thus no ant hills or weeds to worry about! Salt effects all types of masonry installations including concrete.
